A private initiative to globalise the contributions and legacies of some Nigerian heores including the late sage and nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has culminated in a memorial website for the late sage.
Conceived by Livingprojects Media Network, an ICT company in Lagos, the initiative, according to Mr. Bola Adewara is aimed at achieving four goals:
* to upload more information about Nigeria and her great lives onto the internet, |
* to chronicle in details, package and globalise the lives and legacies of some of our credible famous live as heroes who could be cited in schools and studies as mentors any where in the world,
* to preserve and globalise the intellectual and political materials like photographs, newspaper interviews, books, etc, of these great live that are rotting away in private and public libraries, and
* to create resource for mentoring, play into relevance the political standards set by these great lives and show credible examples from our past for the younger generation and posterity in a country in need of credible examples and heroes.
Adewara, a Nigerian foremost infopreneur, webmaster and online journalist said this web project has become very necessary because a recent tour he took round the homes of some of these people showed that important documents, newspaper articles, pictures, etc in the private homes of these people and in public libraries are rotting away.
“I am sure that some of these newspapers cuttings, pictures, etc might not be available anywhere in the world again. If concerted efforts are not made to preserve these materials, they would be lost forever. And if they are to be preserved, it is wise to globalise them through the internet so that political perspectives and morals could be positively affected.”
Adewara who said he kicking off with www.obafemiawolowo.info disclosed that letters have been dispatched to companies like Oodua Group of Companies, state governments and some of the telecommunication companies that are known to be favourably disposed to intellectual and historical matters, to partner with his company to preserve and globalise the legacies of the late sage who together with others created the future we are living in today.
